Former Arsenal youth player Billy Vigar, aged 21, has died following a significant brain injury suffered during an Isthmian League Premier Division match for Chichester City[1].
Vigar’s injury occurred when he collided with a concrete wall during last weekend’s game at Wingate and Finchley, as he attempted to keep the ball in play[1]. He was subsequently taken to hospital, placed in an induced coma, and underwent surgery on Tuesday in hopes of aiding his recovery, but he sadly passed away on Thursday morning[1].
His club, Chichester City, confirmed the news and requested privacy for his family during this difficult time, noting that he will be “forever in the hearts of all at Chichester City Football Club”[1]. The scheduled match against Lewes has been postponed following Vigar’s death[1].
Vigar began his career in the Arsenal academy before leaving the club in the summer of 2024 without having made a senior appearance[2]. He also played for Derby County’s under-21s, as well as Hastings and Eastbourne Borough[1].
