Twitch has seen a flurry of changes and major news in 2025, affecting streamers, viewers, and the broader esports community.[2]
SUBtember 2025 is currently running from August 29 through October 1, featuring discounts on Twitch subscriptions, including 25% off 1- and 3-month plans and 30% off 6-month terms. The event is also sponsored by VALORANT Champions Paris 2025, aligning esports excitement with Twitch’s community focus.[7]
Operational updates from Twitch have focused on supporting creators, including collaborative features such as Shared Chat, Shared Viewership, and Drop Ins, introduced to make joint streams easier and deepen streamer–audience engagement. Twitch has also expanded the Plus Program, increasing revenue opportunities for creators. The company committed to further improvements in discovery, monetization, and new sponsorship tools in 2025.[2][3]
A significant technical update targeted viewbotting, leading to a 5-22% drop in site-wide viewership as Twitch improved code enforcement to detect and penalize artificially inflated viewer counts. Many top streamers have reported lower average concurrent viewers (CCV) and overall watch hours following the crackdown.[5][6]
Twitch usage statistics for 2025 reveal over 240 million monthly active users, 35 million daily logins, and global hours consumed rising to 23.2 billion by mid-year. Despite this growth, average concurrent viewership fell from 2.55 million in 2024 to 2.29 million in early 2025, reflecting both the impact of anti-bot efforts and evolving viewer habits.[6]
Twitch also announced a major overhaul to its Ads Manager. The new “ad density slider” tool enables streamers to fine-tune ads per hour, with clear revenue and pre-roll ad removal indicators. Twitch Partners and Affiliates now automatically earn 55% net ad revenue by running at least 3 minutes of ads per hour, with no separate opt-in required.[4]
Meanwhile, the Rainbow Six Siege X Operation High Stakes event is live from September 2 to October 2, offering exclusive Twitch drops and rewards to viewers who watch specific streams and redeem codes via Ubisoft’s site.[1]
