South African spinner Prenelan Subrayen has recently been cleared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to bowl in international cricket, following scrutiny of his bowling action after being reported for a suspected illegal delivery during the first ODI against Australia in Cairns on August 19, 2025[1][3][5][7]. An independent assessment conducted at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane on August 26 revealed that Subrayen’s elbow extension for all deliveries remained within the ICC’s permitted 15-degree level of tolerance, allowing him to resume international play[1][3][5][7].

Subrayen was rested for the final two ODIs against Australia while his action was under review[1]. This is not the first time his action has been scrutinized—he was previously sent for remedial work in 2012 and subsequently cleared in 2013 after completing a rehabilitation program and passing independent tests[1].

In the first ODI against Australia, Subrayen took 1 wicket for 46 runs in his 10 overs, dismissing Travis Head and helping set up South Africa’s 98-run victory[3][5]. During the tour, South Africa won the ODI series and he contributed with a wicket in the opening match[3][5].

With his action now deemed legal by the ICC, Subrayen is eligible to continue his career at the highest level. He has thus far played two international games for South Africa in 2025—a Test in Zimbabwe and the aforementioned ODI in Australia—with a total of five international wickets to his name[3][5].

This latest ICC clearance adds to Subrayen’s substantial domestic experience, where he is known as a right-handed batsman and off-break bowler, representing various South African provincial sides and being recognized for his all-round capabilities[2][6][8]. Born in Tongaat, Durban, on September 23, 1993, he continues to be a prominent figure in South African cricket[4].
