South Africa’s Proteas recently secured their first bilateral ODI series win on English soil since 1998 by defeating England by five runs at Lord’s, taking an unassailable 2–0 lead in the series[1]. Matthew Breetzke starred with 85 off 77 balls, marking his fifth consecutive ODI half-century and anchoring a formidable 330/8 total. Nandre Burger and Senuran Muthusamy led a disciplined bowling performance, with Burger claiming three wickets and Muthusamy holding his nerve in the final over as England finished on 325/9[1].
The series saw impressive contributions from Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram at the top, while Breetzke partnered with Tristan Stubbs for a critical 147-run fourth-wicket stand. Dewald Brevis provided late-innings fireworks, and Corbin Bosch’s unbeaten 32 helped nearly reach the Lord’s record ODI score[1]. The Proteas now have an unassailable advantage ahead of the final match[6].
Looking to October 2025, Pakistan will host South Africa for their opening series in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. This will be South Africa’s first visit to Pakistan since 2021. The tour schedule is as follows[2][3]:
- Oct 12-16: 1st Test, Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore
- Oct 20-24: 2nd Test, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi
- Oct 28: 1st T20I, Rawalpindi
- Oct 31: 2nd T20I, Lahore
- Three ODIs from November 4, all at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad
Notably, Faisalabad will host its first ODI in 17 years during this tour[2].
In other Proteas news, off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen has been cleared by the ICC to resume bowling in international cricket. He was reported for a suspected illegal action but passed an independent assessment in Brisbane, confirming his deliveries are within the ICC’s 15-degree tolerance limit[5]. Subrayen was part of South Africa’s ODI and Test squads this year and will be available for national selection following his clearance[5].
The Proteas women’s squad, meanwhile, has assembled for a national training camp in Durban as preparations ramp up for upcoming World Cup fixtures[4].
