stan mathabatha

Stan Mathabatha, the former Premier of Limpopo and long-serving ANC Limpopo Chairperson, has resigned from his position as ANC provincial chairperson, effective immediately[1][3][4]. In a letter reportedly addressed to ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula on September 1, Mathabatha cited ongoing misconduct and a breakdown of organisational integrity within the party’s provincial structures as his primary reasons for stepping down. He specifically referenced “unethical conduct” related to recent ANC conferences in the Vhembe and Waterberg regions, expressing that he could not remain complicit in what he termed a departure from ANC values[1][4][5][7].

Mathabatha stated his intention to preserve his personal integrity and distance himself from “un-ANC” tendencies occurring under his leadership. The resignation has prompted a response from ANC Limpopo spokesperson Jimmy Machaka, who said that the party was verifying the authenticity of the letter and would issue further communication in due course[1].

Mathabatha had earlier left his position as Premier of Limpopo following the 2024 general election due to constitutional term limits and was succeeded by Phophi Ramathuba on June 14, 2024[2].
