sassa grant

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed the grant payment dates for August 2025: Older Persons Grant on Tuesday, 5 August; Disability Grant on Wednesday, 6 August; and Child Support and other grants on Thursday, 7 August[1][3]. Beneficiaries are reminded that funds will remain available in accounts and there is no need to rush to collection points[3].

The payment amounts for August 2025 remain unchanged: Older Persons Grant (Under 75) at R2,180, Older Persons Grant (75 and above) at R2,200, Disability Grant at R2,180, War Veterans Grant at R2,200, Child Support Grant at R530, Foster Child Grant at R1,180, Care Dependency Grant at R2,180, and the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grant at R350[3].

New rule changes affecting all grant types were implemented from June 2025. These include updated eligibility requirements, new verification processes, and stricter reviews to prevent fraud and ensure that only those who qualify receive payments[2][4]. Specifically, SASSA has begun reviewing grant recipients for undisclosed sources of income by collaborating with credit bureaus, which has led to approximately 210,000 beneficiaries being flagged for review[6]. Payment delays may occur for beneficiaries who need to visit local offices for income verification and to confirm changes in their financial situation[6].

For August 2025, SASSA is expecting possible disruptions in grant disbursements due to the verification process, especially for around a quarter-of-a-million recipients currently under review[5]. Additional payment dates are being added to address issues related to income verification and assist clients whose circumstances have required further assessment[5].

Moreover, the new SASSA Mobility Grant will roll out from August 15, 2025. This grant aims to support individuals with mobility needs, including transport fare, equipment funding, and caregiver-led transportation reimbursements. Each application will be evaluated individually to tailor support to unique needs[7].
