Italy’s City of Bologna has cancelled a concert by the pro-Russian pianist Alexander Romanovsky, which was scheduled for August 5, 2025, after concerns were raised by members of Italy’s Liberal Democratic Party and Action Party about Romanovsky’s pro-Putin stances. Romanovsky, originally from Ukraine and an Italian citizen since 2011, had also seen other concerts cancelled in Genoa and Rome recently[1].
On August 1, 2025, Bologna experienced two minor earthquakes, the strongest measuring 2.3 magnitude within 100 km of the city[3].
The University of Bologna will host the 18th EISA Pan-European Conference on International Relations from August 25 to 29, 2025, bringing together experts and scholars in the field from around Europe and beyond[5]. The University also announced its General Administration offices will be closed from August 11 to August 15, 2025, for summer holidays, with some other offices having different schedules[7].
The city calendar features a wide range of summer events, including film nights at Le Serre dei Giardini Margherita, live music at Red Bologna, the Maxima Festival at Chiesa di San Barbaziano, and private visits to the Massimo Osti Archive[4].
