Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will now release on May 26, 2026, moving away from its previously planned 2025 launch window. The company cited the need for additional development time to ensure the game meets the high expectations of fans and maintains the franchise’s standard for quality[3][5][7].

GTA 6 is confirmed to be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles, marking the next chapter in the blockbuster series. The game is set in the neon-soaked state of Leonida, which includes an updated and expanded version of Vice City[1].

Development of GTA 6 has faced several challenges, including a widely reported leak in September 2022 that exposed work-in-progress gameplay footage and internal details. Despite initial concerns, Rockstar assured the public that the leak would not impact the final release or affect ongoing development[5].

The most recent and highly anticipated features include:

  • Expansive open-world map set in Leonida, home to a reimagined Vice City.
