xAI, Elon Musk’s AI company, has officially launched Grok 4, positioning it as the world’s most advanced AI model. The release arrives after a turbulent week for the company, following controversy over antisemitic outputs from Grok 3 and the resignation of major executives, including X CEO Linda Yaccarino and xAI chief scientist Igor Babuschkin[1][4][6].

Grok 4 introduces substantial technical advances. The model is available in two configurations: the standard Grok 4 and the premium “Heavy” edition. The Heavy version features a multi-agent architecture designed for collaborative reasoning on complex tasks and is marketed at $300 per month for the “SuperGrok Heavy” subscription, offering higher performance and rate limits compared to the standard $30/month plan[1][2][3][5].

During a livestream, Musk and the xAI team demonstrated Grok 4’s capabilities, including:

  • Solving advanced math problems at a post-graduate level
  • Interpreting scientific images, including simulations of black hole collisions
  • Performing predictive analytics, such as estimating sports outcomes
  • Running simulated businesses and integrating with research and financial workflows

According to xAI, benchmark data indicates Grok 4 Heavy outperforms previous models on rigorous tests like Humanity’s Last Exam[1][3].

Upcoming plans include a coding-specialized AI in August, a multimodal agent in September, and a video-generating model by October 2025. Version 7 (set for release in July 2025) is expected to dramatically improve image, video, and audio capabilities, with ambitions for Grok to create full 3D games and interactive video content by 2026[1][2].

Grok 4’s launch arrives amid heightened competition, with OpenAI planning to launch GPT-5 later this summer and Google’s Gemini series evolving. Grok 4 is available via API, and xAI is accelerating cloud platform partnerships to promote enterprise adoption[1][5].
