Mirra Andreeva

Mirra Andreeva, the 18-year-old Russian tennis sensation, has surged into the quarterfinals at Wimbledon 2025. On Monday, she defeated No. 10 seed Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-3, making her the youngest woman to reach the elite eight at Wimbledon since Nicole Vaidisova nearly two decades ago. Andreeva is also the first teenager to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since Victoria Azarenka and Sabine Lisicki in 2009[5]. Her next opponent will be Belinda Bencic, who overcame Ekaterina Alexandrova to advance.

Andreeva’s performance this year highlights her rapid ascent—she’s now reached the quarterfinal stage at three of the last six Grand Slam events, including back-to-back majors. Her game on grass has been especially impressive, converting six out of seven break points in her 75-minute win over Navarro[5]. Notably, Andreeva has already notched six Top 10 wins this season, trailing only Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff in that category[5].

This run at Wimbledon is yet another step in Andreeva’s remarkable young career. She made headlines as a 15-year-old with a deep run as a wildcard at the 2023 Madrid Open, later reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon and the semifinals at Roland Garros in 2024—her best major result so far[1][4].

In her Centre Court debut at Wimbledon this week, Andreeva won in front of tennis legend Roger Federer, an emotional high point for her. “It means a lot to me that you came and watched my match. It’s been one of my dreams to see you in real life,” Andreeva told the crowd, acknowledging her nerves and joy from spotting Federer and his wife Mirka in the Royal Box[3].

Her success at Wimbledon continues a trend—she is the youngest woman since 2006 to reach the last 16 in the first three majors of the season, a feat last achieved by Nicole Vaidisova. Andreeva dispatched American Hailey Baptiste 6-1, 6-3 in the third round, marking her third consecutive Round of 16 appearance at a major[2]. She first made the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2023, affirming her talent and ability to perform under pressure.
