Chelsea have officially completed the signing of João Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth up to £60 million. The 23-year-old Brazilian forward has agreed to a long-term contract that runs through 2033 and is already with the squad in the United States ahead of Chelsea’s Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras. Pedro expressed his excitement, stating, “Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history… when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.”[1][5]

Pedro’s transfer reportedly includes a significant profit for Brighton, with Watford, his former club, due to receive 20% of the profit from the deal. Newcastle United were also interested, but Pedro was set on joining Chelsea. Brighton are not expected to alter their overall transfer strategy following this major exit.[2]

The versatile forward has already joined training and is under consideration by manager Enzo Maresca to make his debut in the Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras. Maresca commented on Pedro’s fitness, noting he has just returned from holiday but has trained well since joining up with the squad. If selected, his debut could come off the bench in this crucial match as Chelsea push for a deep tournament run.[3][4]

Pedro is set to wear the number 20 shirt for Chelsea, a number previously worn by Cole Palmer before his switch to number 10. His arrival adds further depth and competition to Chelsea’s forward options, alongside recent signing Liam Delap and established players like Palmer and Noni Madueke.[7]

Pedro’s journey includes stints at Fluminense, Watford, and Brighton, impressing with his versatility, technical ability, and pressing intensity, drawing comparisons to Roberto Firmino. At Brighton, he scored 30 goals and registered 10 assists over two seasons, and has earned three caps for Brazil, most recently featuring in a 2–1 win over Colombia.[1][5][8]
